ON A PERSONAL NOTE, Jerome's Scotch/Irish and Ukrainian ancestors immigrated to Canada in the 1800s. However, he grew up Encinitas, a small town on the coast of North San Diego County, California. After university and following a stint in the Peace Corps in Pakistan as a volunteer trainer of English teachers, Jerome moved to Prague, Czech Republic, where he lived and worked in advertising from 1991 to 1999. He also met his wife Veronika there. In 2003 he "repatriated" to Canada to make a family and home in Victoria, BC. He became a licensed Realtor in 2006. Jerome and Veronika have two boys, age 9 and 11. His family enjoys nature and regularly gets out hiking and camping, and he is a Scout Leader, following his sons in Scouting. Jerome is a life-long surfer and a keen cyclist. He is a blues harmonica player and jazz aficionado. Jerome is member of the Odd Fellows Victoria, a charitable organization established in Victoria over 150 years ago. He is also a member of the Surfrider Foundation, an environmental organization, and he supports Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF), among other charities.
